What are its real benefits in summer and winter, and why should this treatment join your essentials in the bathroom?

What is a face peel?

If "peeling" means "to peel", and evokes the moment when the skin peels off after a sunburn, it will (fortunately) not be the same when you apply your enzymatic or chemical peel on the face. The role of the peel is to dissolve the keratin and superficial layer of the epidermis and to eliminate all the dead cells, to make new skin. And of course, without any pain!

The benefits of peeling are numerous:
-It unclogs and shrinks pores
-It eliminates dry and flaky skin
-It visibly reduces fine lines, wrinkles and scars
- It reduces spots and redness
-It promotes cell regeneration and helps fight against acne

The result is often immediate in terms of the radiance of the complexion and after a few weeks of application, you will find skin that is smoother, softer, brighter and above all better absorbs care.

Micro-peeling, chemical peeling or exfoliating, what's the difference?

Mechanical, chemical, enzymatic or micro-peeling have similar functions. It all depends on your skin type and problem.

AHA or BHA chemical peels

Among the most common peels are those containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and beta hydroxy acids (BHAs). AHAs and BHAs work chemically by combining with structural lipids in the outer layer of your skin (stratum corneum) and dissolving them so that dead skin cells slough off.

AHA-based facial scrubs are a great choice for people with oily skin. Acids work by dissolving the bonds that hold skin cells together, allowing dead skin cells to slough off faster than they would on their own.

BHA is also a light chemical peel. In general, BHA is a more effective treatment for acne-prone skin. BHA (also called salicylic acid) is able to penetrate the oil to cleanse the inside of your pores and rebalance the lining.

Institute peels

Peels at home and therefore available for sale are generally low-dose and require much less preparation than a peel in an institute or doctor's office, the formula of which will be much more concentrated.

During a session, you can usually choose between a superficial, medium or stronger peel, and even if the application looks like a classic facial treatment, it is recommended to seek the advice of your dermatologist before starting.

Be careful especially with dark and/or sensitive skin which could react badly to this type of treatment, the skin must be prepared at least two weeks before and it is forbidden to expose yourself to the sun several days after the peeling.

Enzymatic peels or micro-peeling

For very sensitive skin, it is often recommended to use enzyme-based peels called enzymatic peels or micro-peels. These enzymes come from a natural source, such as fruit. They work much like acids but at a much slower rate, allowing for a safer and above all gentler exfoliation process without irritating the skin.

As a general rule, acne-prone and very sensitive skin respond better to micro-peels or enzymatic peels because they are less likely to cause irritation. If this is your case, always test the product on your arm or neck to see how your skin reacts.

Mechanical exfoliators

Mechanical exfoliators more commonly called "scrubs" are effective in removing dead skin accumulated on the surface of the skin, but if the "grains" are too large or if it is not correctly applied it can be very irritating for the skin. skin and cause skin tears.

How to do a peel at home?

If you are looking for immediate effects and your skin is not sensitive or prone to redness and pimples, you can opt for a chemical peel.

Otherwise, an enzymatic peel or micro-peel is recommended, which is generally safer and without risk for the skin.

Before applying an enzyme peel, remove make-up and cleanse your face thoroughly, it is best not to wear make-up the day before, the time to let the pores breathe. Then apply the treatment to the entire face and leave on for the time indicated on the instructions, because unlike the method of use of a classic exfoliant, you do not massage your face during a peel.

You may feel slight tingling and potentially slight redness in rare cases, but rest assured these will quickly disappear.
