The importance of knowing how to disconnect during the holidays

Forget your endless todo list, your pile of chores at home and your daily hassles - during the summer (and for that matter at any time of the year) it is advisable to learn to disconnect. However, according to a study conducted for Qapa, 71% of French people always respond to emails and business calls during their holidays. Too bad, because it's the first thing to do to maximize the effects of a holiday and ensure a re-inflated comeback. It is also and above all a right since 2016 called "the right to disconnect" in particular for "all employees required to use these new technologies in their professional activities" as specified on the INRS (the National Institute for Research and safety for the prevention of accidents at work and occupational diseases). Result of this hyper-connection? Stress, (according to a study by the IFOP in 2017) for 51% of those questioned. Not to mention the annoyance for loved ones (for 29% of them), which does nothing to help family tensions - and therefore again, the stress generated!

In our podcast episode with Léa Coutaye, founder of Le Yogascope wellness retreats and Les Terres co-living wellness, we approach the benefits of travel more particularly, confirmed by several scientific studies: boost of self-confidence and initiative-taking, improvement of productivity, prevention of depression and heart disease... Traveling could well change your entire life. And that's why, no need to blow up your carbon footprint. Travel on foot, cycle tourism, rail trip, pescatourism... The book "Voyager sans Avion" (Plume de Carotte editions) is full of ideas to get a new idea of travel, closer to nature. Some even find in travel a fulfillment (one thinks of the ascent of Kilimanjaro by Lena Mahfouf) and even the opportunity to do a good deed (Charles Steinmyller, a young worker, took a sabbatical to travel the Silk Road, 17.000 kilometers from Cherbourg to Shanghai to raise funds for the benefit of the Coral Gardeners association).

Our favorite places to disconnect

Laura, founder of HO KARAN
On a sailboat in Corsica: total disconnection and guaranteed slowing down, especially underwater by discovering the seabed with flippers, mask and snorkel - a little nod to the episode of HO KALM with Arthur Guérin Boery, world champion in apnea, which tells us all the benefits!

Marion, communication department
During long days on a family boat on the French Riviera. The speed on the water at the front of the boat makes me disconnect and take a step back from everything that has happened in recent months. Nothing matters, only the present moment. Ultimate release!

Clarisse, brand pole
In Lhe family country house in Normandy where there is no WIFI! We drive in an old light blue 4L and have cider aperitifs all summer long. A real disconnection, a bit out of time.

Agnes, R&D center
At the cinema, my favorite place to be calm, without a phone and cool! I go during the week, alone and at the end of the evening to be quiet in the room. For me, it's the best way to quickly escape everyday life regardless of the city I'm in, to live a story (preferably very different from my daily life) through characters.

Camille, commercial center
On the Ile de Noirmoutier, a real corner of paradise - maybe I'm not being objective ;) When I come back after a weekend or a week, I come back to life. The sea air, the simplicity of the small town centre, the sea… Everything is there to relax and let yourself be carried away.

Margaux, editorial department
In the family house in the Pyrenees. Every summer since I was a child, my grandparents have welcomed a host of cousins. Chill by the pool, mountain walks, rosé lunches and movie nights - with the added bonus of a view of the Pyrenees range! It is for me the climax of the summer and one of the rare moments in the year when I disconnect 100%.

During the holidays, disconnect thanks to the HO KALM podcast which, thanks to our guests and their life journeys, is full of ideas for a more peaceful life!
